8 Simple Rules

8 Simple Rules will not be returning for the fall 2005 season.

It's a time for healing and learning to deal with life without family patriarch Paul (the late John Ritter). Cate (Katey Sagal) now finds herself in the precarious position of raising three teenagers on her own while holding down a full time job. She get a little relief thanks to her father, Jim (James Garner), who's been staying at the house since Paul's death. The family is thrown for a loop when Cate's wayward nephew, C.J. (David Spade), moves in and finds it hard to resist getting himself into trouble or offering questionable advice to the kids.

Oldest daughter Bridget (Kaley Cuoco) has matured into a beautiful and popular teenager -- especially with the boys. But since her father's death, she has begun to question the importance of running with the "in crowd" at school. By contrast, middle child Kerry (Amy Davidson) is intelligent and cute, but her continued lack of self-confidence has led her to hide behind a mask of sarcasm, which makes it difficult for her to get in touch with her true feelings. And youngest child Rory (Martin Spanjers), is entering the world of puberty and discovering one of life's true mysteries -- girls.

8 Simple Rules For Dating My Teenage Daughter

The book that inspired the TV show. A nationally syndicated columnist with the Rocky Mountain News, W Bruce Cameron gained national attention with the 8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter. The reason is simple: he expresses something very true in a very funny way, examining just what happens when Daddy's little girl becomes a teenager. Beginning with the warning signs (#5: Your car insurance suddenly costs more than the car), the book covers dating (Rule #2: Keep your hands and eyes off my daughter's body or I will remove them), the telephone (seemingly wired to her nervous system), braces (the costliest metal on earth), the first job, and more.

What a Difference a Year Makes: How Life's Unexpected Setbacks Can Lead to Unexpected Joy (Book)

Bob Guiney, known as the funny guy from ABC's The Bachelorette, may not have won the Bachelorette's hand, but he won America's heart. With five appearances in one month on The Oprah Winfrey Show (a record for any guest in the history of the show), Bob went on to be the Bachelor on ABC's hit series in 2004. He co-owns a branch of a mortgage company in Detroit, Michigan.

One Thanksgiving weekend Bob Guiney came home to find a white Post-it(tm) note from his wife informing him that she wanted a divorce. On top of his broken heart, he suffered a series of physical injuries, gained forty pounds, and fell into a deep depression. For the first time in his life, he found himself at rock bottom, unsure of how to pick up the pieces. What a Difference a Year Makes looks, month-by-month, at a devastating year and the wise words and lessons drawn from uncles, aunts, parents, and his best friend: Grandma. "On paper," he writes, "I looked like a failure-no football career, no music career, and a divorce. But actually I'm doing better than I ever have in my life."

With the honesty and humor that have made Bob America's favorite bachelor, he explores the simple but valuable life lessons that helped him return to vitality and optimism. The result is a witty and warm book that will touch and inspire anyone who has ever suffered a broken heart.

Emily's Reasons Why Not

Coming January 2006, Mondays, 9pm (8 Central)

Emily Sanders has many things going for her. She's young, single, has terrific friends and a great job in publishing. In fact, she's got the hottest selling book in town. Unfortunately, she's just closed the chapter on her relationship with the roguishly handsome, two-timing author.

Now a lovelorn Emily must face the fact that the self-described "flutter-flutter" of her heart can't be considered a trusted compass. However, like any successful professional, Emily has a plan. From here-on-out, she's going to listen to the "Reasons." Five "Reasons Why Not" and he's history. The "Reasons" will not only guide her in matters of love, but life in general. For instance, steering clear of her back-stabbing former assistant, Glitter.

Based on the bestselling novel of one successful single woman's search for love, this smart and stylish comedy explores life, love and sex in the city from an independent woman's point of view.

Emily's Reasons Why Not: A Novel

Hollywood publicity pro extraordinaire Emily Sanders is hitting thirty -- hard -- and she wants the life her best friends seem to have: house, kids, perfect man. But finding true love isn't easy in L.A., where image is everything, and where every beauty pageant winner is an eight in a sea of nines, who all wish they were Julia Roberts.

For Emily, boyfriend material has always come in many strange shapes and incarnations -- beautiful young surfer god, aging music executive, boss's boss's boss, and a baseball player with two cell phones (one of which she does not have the number to).

With her confidence rapidly heading due south (like everything else on her body), it's time to find a smart, sharp-eyed psychotherapist to help her get past her surefire method for choosing the absolute worst man. With a little help, maybe Emily can learn to narrow her focus from looking for Mister Right to looking out for Mister Wrong. Because she knows that, eventually, "the one" comes for every woman ... even for a disarming, unflappable player in the mad, mad world of entertainment, with the edge of an insider and the heart of a dreamer.

The Evidence

The Evidence is a mid-season replacement for the 2005-2006 season.

People lie. The evidence doesn't. It's the foundation of every conviction -- with evidence, justice is possible; without evidence, guilty men walk free. Producer John Wells and director Gary Fleder put a fascinating twist on the standard police procedural. At the top of each episode, all of the clues (a locket, a phone, a severed finger) are revealed in a videotaped evidence log. The show then flashes to the day the crime was committed and invites our viewers to play along with our heroes as they find each clue, determine its meaning, put the pieces of the puzzle together and figure out who done it.

No one knows the importance of evidence more than Inspector Sean Cole. After he lost his wife in a brutal murder, the only evidence the cops had was accidentally destroyed, and it ruined his faith in the system. Fortunately his partner and best friend, Bishop, is there for him, pulling him back to work, pushing him forward, as they both try solve these complex cases set against the beautiful streets of San Francisco.

In Justice

In Justice is a mid-season replacement for the 2005-2006 season.

Every year, hundreds of innocent men and women get convicted of crimes they didn't commit. Sloppy police work. False testimony. Biased juries. In the blink of an eye an innocent man can lose his life to the mistakes of an imperfect system. And every year the number of innocents who live without hope behind bars multiplies, while the real criminals walk free.

The innocent have finally found a champion in a blustery but charismatic attorney named David Swayne. A legendary litigator, Swayne is the head of the Justice Project, a high-profile, non-profit organization made up of hungry young associates who fight to overturn wrongful convictions, liberate the falsely accused and discover the identity of those really to blame. Whether the ego driven Swayne is doing this in the pursuit of justice or publicity remains to be seen. Thank goodness he has his partner, crackerjack investigator and ex-cop Charles Conti, to keep him honest. He's the serious to Swayne's swagger and together they work to rectify the mistakes of the justice system one case at a time.

Using real life stories as inspiration, the producers of the critically acclaimed life as we know it have created an intriguing legal drama reminiscent of Reversal of Fortune in which clients who are presumed guilty must ultimately be proven innocent.

Jake In Progress

Returning January 2006 on Mondays, 9:30pm (8:30 Central)

Life moves at a non-stop pace for Jake Phillips (John Stamos), a New-York based publicist-to-the-stars who's the key player at Magnum PR Agency. Handsome, incredibly well-dressed, he's on call 24/7 to meet the needs of his A-list clientele. Whether it's a macho action star caught in an embarrassing clinch, an older actress trying to dump her much-younger (and even more famous) boyfriend, or two warring teen divas - Jake is there to spin the facts and control his client's image, a task that often leads him into unexpectedly funny situations. Complicating his work life even further is his boss, Naomi (Malick), a woman in a people profession who frankly can't stand people, and who often uses Jake to act as her go-between when things get too personal with the staff or the clients. The fact that Naomi is an expectant single mom in the difficult final stretch of her first pregnancy doesn't help matters. Brooke (Bowen) is an office temp who doesn't take any of Jake's BS, and she's one of the few women who has ever said "no" to a date with him.

But the drama in Jake's professional life has nothing on his personal life, as he strives to find the perfect girl to commit to, once and for all. A one-time player, he's determined to find "the one" woman to settle down with. But that's a little difficult for a guy who's so hard to pin down he can't even commit to a home - he lives out of a hotel. He came close to commitment once, but when his fiancee dumped him flat, it left Jake a little vulnerable. His friend since childhood, Adrian (Gomez), a married dentist living in the suburbs, vicariously enjoys Jake's adventures and offers him a sympathetic ear when things don't go right. Then there's Patrick (Hoffman)... he's a performance artist and David Blaine-wanna-be who crossed Jake's path when Jake dated Patrick's old girlfriend. Jake's been trying to get rid of him ever since, without much luck, and he pops up at the oddest times and most difficult moments in Jake's life.

Now, while continuing to spar with these snobs, she's being pestered in new ways: Lydia is obsessed with her upcoming wedding to on-air pundit Jeb (Patrick Warburton, new series regular), sharing all the details with everyone at the office -- especially Claude -- and Kipp needs Claude's counsel as he struggles with his new job as Jeb's assistant. Fortunately Claude still has the support of three friends at GNB: the brash and blunt Ramona (Sherri Shepherd), the loyal but idiosyncratic Owen (Andy Dick), and her blowhard next-door neighbor, Carl (Will Sasso), who's also the cafeteria manager.

Lost

Wednesdays, 9pm (8 Central)

Out of the blackness, the first thing Jack (Matthew Fox) senses is pain. Then burning sun. A Bamboo forest. Smoke. Screams. With a rush comes the horrible awareness that the plane he was on tore apart in mid-air and crashed on a Pacific island. From there it's a blur, as his doctor's instinct kicks in: people need his help.

Stripped of everything, the 48 survivors scavenge what they can from the plane for their survival. Some panic. Some pin their hopes on rescue. A few find inner strength they never knew they had -- like Kate (Evangeline Lilly), who, with no medical training, suddenly finds herself suturing the doctor's wounds. Hurley (Jorge Garcia) -- a man with a warm sense of humor despite the desperate situation -- does his best to keep his cool as he helps those around him to survive. Charlie (Dominic Monaghan) is a faded rock star who harbors a painful secret. Sayid (Naveen Andrews) is a Middle Eastern man who must wrestle with the racial profiling directed at him by some of his fellow survivors. Jin (Daniel Dae Kim) and Sun (Yunjin Kim) are a Korean couple whose traditions, values and language are foreign and thus causes much to get lost in the translation. Sawyer (Josh Holloway) has an air of danger surrounding him, and his intense sense of mistrust for everyone around him could prove to be fatal to his fellow castaways. Michael (Harold Perrineau) has just gained custody of his nine-year-old son, Walt (Malcolm David Kelley), after the death of his ex-wife -- they are a father and son who don't even know each other. Locke (Terry O'Quinn) is a mysterious man who keeps to himself, and who harbors a deeper connection to the island than any of the others. And self-centered Shannon (Maggie Grace) -- who actually gives herself a pedicure amid the chaos -- and her estranged controlling brother, Boone (Ian Somerhalder) -- constantly bicker and must learn to get along if they are to survive.

The band of friends, family, enemies and strangers must work together against the cruel weather and harsh terrain if they want to stay alive. But the island holds many secrets, including the intense howls of the mysterious creatures stalking the jungle, which fill them all with fear. Fortunately, thanks to the calm leadership of quick-thinking Jack and level-headed Kate, they have hope. But even heroes have secrets, as the survivors will come to learn.

This is proved by the multiple marriages and many children in their close extended clan. What About Brian

Coming January 2006 on Mondays, 10pm (9 Central)

Brian is the guy everyone wants as a best friend. He's the guy who'll stand by you at your wedding, drive you to the hospital, cheer your kids on at their little league game... the guy who every wife dotes on and every husband wants to either grab a beer with or live vicariously through. But as all of his friends pair off and Brian emerges as the last bachelor standing, questions begin to arise in his head: Is there such a thing as Mr. or Mrs. Right? Why does love have to be so complicated? What is his problem with commitment? What lies in his future? What about kids? What is going on with him?

At 34, Brian is the last single guy in his group of friends: his best friend Adam was going to break up with picture-perfect Marjorie but proposed instead. Brian's sister, Nic, and her boy-toy husband, Angelo, are trying hard to have kids. The bohemian Dave and Deena have three little girls and no sex life. And, like all married people, they can't wait for Brian to join their "club," though they're not exactly sure why. As for Brian, well, he's a serial monogamist but still holds out hope that one day he'll open the door and be blinded by love.
